An all-star cast faithfully brings Robert Louis Stevenson's beloved adventure novel to life in an excellent TV movie.
An enigmatic sailor named Billy Bones (Oliver Reed) has taken up residence at the Admiral Benbow, an inn run by Mrs. Hawkins (Isla Blair) and her son Jim (Christian Bale). Bones is a hunted man, apparently, warning Jim to beware "a seafaring man with one leg." When his past finally catches up with him, the stress results in a fatal heart attack (his excessive drinking probably didn't help). Among Bones's belongings is a map of an island, where the treasure horde of the infamous Captain Flint is supposedly buried. An expedition is planned to recover the treasure, led by Squire Trelawney and Dr. Livesey (Julian Glover), and a ship and crew are acquired. One of the crew, the ship's cook, is Long John Silver (Charlton Heston)...who just so happens to be missing a leg.
