Timely’s top stars put aside their rivalry to fight the Axis in this classic Golden Age romp!
Our story opens with the Human Torch, having completed a recent case, being summoned by his old rival, the Sub-Mariner. However, Namor hasn't come to pick a fight - at least not with the Torch. The Sub-Mariner has discovered that the Nazis and the Japanese are planning a joint invasion of the United States. It falls to our heroes to thwart the invasion.
Long-time Marvel readers familiar with the Sub-Mariner might be astonished by how different his characterization is in the 1940s. He wisecracks, he banters, and he's casual in the face of danger, instead of his formal, regal manner of speech we'd see from him in the Silver Age. He's far more likely to say "Suffering Seafood!" than "Imperius Rex!" Unfortunately, the story loses points for its racist caricatures of the Japanese - which can't be excused by the attack on Pearl Harbor, as this comic came out in March of 1941.
