Welcome back to First Strike, recalling our favorite superheroes first published confrontations with their most malevolent villains! Today, we're going all the way back to the Golden Age of Comics for the first duel of wits between Jay Garrick, the original Flash, and the devious wiles of the Thinker!
Unfortunately, none of the Thinker's solo outings against the Flash have been reprinted, including this one. There are scans available online, but the quality isn't great. I've been hoping that DC would reprint some more Golden Age Flash comics, especially given the success of the CW television series, but as of when I'm writing this, it doesn't look like this will happen any time soon. Hopefully that will change, and a new generation of readers will be able to see the original Flash take on his original arch-foe.
To close things out, the slapstick comedy aside, the Thinker's first appearance is still a decent debut for a new nemesis, and a fun story in its own right.
