It's a new year on the INCspotlight, and I want to start off with something that's been on my to-review list for quite a while - the 1985 Anne of Green Gables mini-series.
We open with Anne (with an "E") Shirley (Megan Follows) being returned to an orphanage by the abusive Hammond family that had taken her in only to treat her like a slave. Later, the elderly Marilla Cuthbert (Colleen Dewhurst) has arranged with that same orphanage to be sent a boy to work on their farm, Green Gables. She dispatches her brother Matthew (Richard Farnsworth) to the train station to pick him up, only to find the orphanage made a mistake and sent Anne instead. Unable to ditch Anne, Matthew takes her back to Green Gables, and Anne is enthralled by its beauty and the idea of having a loving home at last.
